Local Area Attractions and Facilities
There are a host of attractions within easy reach of Week St. Mary (or WSM). Most are less than a half hour drive and make for a great day out exploring the best of Cornwall and Devon.
Beaches for surfing, fishing, rock climbing, paddling, canoeing, kayaking, sunsets etc.

Beaches for surfing, fishing, rock climbing, paddling, canoeing, kayaking, sunsets etc.
- Widemouth Bay's safe surfing, with surf schools, surf-hire, surf life-saving patrols, restaurant/pub, snack cafes, ample parking, lookouts at each end of the bay - all great spots for sunset photos!
- Bude's Summerleaze and Crooklets beaches - access to the Bude Canal and breakwater, plus a very large safe seawater pool. Also low tide beach walks linking all the Bude beaches.
- Crackington Haven, Sandymouth, Northcott Mouth, Duckpool - all within short drive.
- Golf - Two 18 hole courses at Launceston and Trethorne just off the A30. A great links course in Bude and a parkland course at Holsworthy. All with special deals for tourists. A par-3 course at Ivyleaf just north of Bude.
- Walks - the Cornish Coastal Footpath is a great way to explore the rugged North Cornish coast. More gentle walks along the Bude Canal provide an interesting and relaxing outing. Bude also offers informative walks exploring the local geological history.
- Tennis, badminton and squash court hire available in Bude.
- Cinema - ideal for rainy days - just outside Bude there is a small cinema with a single screen, seating for up to 85 people. Recommend booking in advance for major releases.
- Cycle hire in Bude plus cycling tours of the local district.
- Archery, horse-riding, mountain-boarding and zorbing (i.e. rolling down a hill in a big ball).
- Bude has an indoor swimming centre and kids play area, with tenpin bowling.
- Idyllic villages used in many television dramas and shows - such as Port Isaac for the Doc Martin series.
- Tintagel - legendary birthplace of King Arthur in an awe-inspiring setting.
- Clovelly - a step back in time to old world living on the North Devon coast.
- Dining at famous restaurants from celebrity chefs at Padstow, Watergate Bay, St. Ives among others.
- Walk the moors - Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor (visit Jamaica Inn), Exemoor - the path less travelled by tourists.
- Lydford Gorge - a spectacular natural formation worth a visit at any time of the year.
- Watch glass blowing at the Dartington Crystal factory in Torrington - with a fascinating tour.

- The Eden Project - Cornwall's premier visitor attraction. One hour drive from WSM.
- Lands End with all its intrigue, rugged beauty, charm, mythology and history, including Minack cliff-side theatre - 90 minutes in good traffic - allow a little more time to make sure.
- Isles of Scilly - day trips from Penzance and Lands End Airport.
- Lanhydrock House - part of the National Trust - 45 minutes away.
- Falmouth - the historic Pendennis castle, National Maritime Museum, harbour and restaurants - 75 minutes away.
- Par Markets - reportedly the largest indoor market in the England - 60 minutes away.
- The Lizard peninsula - coves, caves, earth station for satellites, fishing villages etc - 30 minutes on from Falmouth
- Looe, Polperro, Mevagissey, Fowey - south Cornish coastal gems - mostly within 60-75 minutes from WSM.
- Poldark Mine - a relic if the past for you to tour - 15 minutes from Falmouth.
